VC&A Awarded the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Self-Anchored Suspension Span Project for Caltrans District 4
VC&A is pleased to announce that we were recently selected to provide professional and technical construction engineering services and staff augmentation on an as-needed basis to support construction management of the development and construction of roadway portions of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB) Self-Anchored Suspension (SAS) Span project. Professional services for this project include construction inspection, construction office engineering, certified industrial hygienist’s review and procedural development of site specific hazardous material handling and monitoring, enforcing labor compliance and other construction engineering services.
Caltrans District 4 is seismically retrofitting the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Of the various seismic safety projects included, the Self-Anchored Suspension span is the highlight of this endeavor. As the largest public works contract in California’s history, this project creates the world’s longest SAS bridge (2,047 total feet) and provides state of the art seismic features that include shock absorbing shear link beams. The roadway is configured side by side to give an unencumbered and expansive view of the Bay Area and features a 15 foot wide cantilevered pedestrian and bicycle path on the east side of the bridge. The SAS contract is a part of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge retrofit projects which include the West Approach, the West Span Retrofit, the Yerba Buena Island Transitions (YBITS), the Skyway, and the Oakland Touchdown (OTD) and, after completion of the new East Span, the existing East Span Demolition.
