CALIFORNIA STATE WATER PROJECT

In October of 2008 Vali Cooper & Associates, Inc. began work on the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) Construction Project Management Services contract for the Division of Engineering (DOE) and over the last year we have had the opportunity of working on dozens of exciting State Water projects, Early Implementation projects and Levee Repair projects which are vital to California’s water system. DWR has the nation\'s largest state-built water and power development and conveyance system, which encompasses facilities that capture, store, and convey water to 29 water agencies. This $8 million, five year contract provides a wide range of services that include contract administration, inspection, and general engineering-related services on an on-call as needed basis. Construction activities have included or possibly could include environmental mitigation, restoration and enhancement facilities, flood protection facilities, dredging and sediment removal, aqueducts, levees, roads, bridges, recreation facilities, multi-purpose buildings, fish passage structures, roads and bridges, as well as facilities to improve water quality, hydroelectric pumping and generation plants, pipelines, dams, reservoirs, water conveyance structures/buildings, and groundwater improvement/recharge and transfer facilities. VC&A currently has a team of individuals working on projects throughout California in areas such as Yuba County, San Joaquin County, Sacramento, Byron, Lancaster, and Bakersfield. We are also providing construction administration support out of the three DWR project headquarters as noted below: - LRPH – Levee Repair Project Headquarters (located in downtown Sacramento) - SPH – Sacramento Project Headquarters (located in West Sacramento) - LPH – Lancaster Project Headquarters (located in Lancaster) A few examples of projects that are currently underway include: - Emergency levee erosion repair on Sutter slough - Erosion repair and bank protection on the San Joaquin river - Habitat restoration in the Colusa State recreation area - Natomas Cross Canal levee improvements - Feather River levee repair - Erosion Repair at the Vista Del Lago visitors center - Roofing replacement and recoating at he Oso pumping plant - Forebay excavation at the South Bay Pumping plant - Coating on the surge tanks for the South Bay aqueduct enlargement - Construction of Dyer Reservoir - Construction of switching station for a 69KV power transmission line Additionally, it is anticipated that this contract will require emergency and immediate response-related services, often in remote areas, anytime and anywhere throughout the State. It is also anticipated that this contract will require a qualified staff of not less than 20 professionals who are available at all times.
